![]() USB-attached, same physical disk, and networked. Never had any problems routinely using NTFS volumes on linux systems in a mixed-OS environment (including several dual/multi-boot pcs). What does dmesg show when the backup fails? Have you tried any other formats like ext4? Where was the external disk formatted? Was it formatted in the NAS? If not try reformatting it in the NAS. Patrick, while ext4 is native to Linux and will provide better performance NTFS is supported by QNAP and therefore should work. All drives are formatted NTFS.īackup your Linux NAS to external Linux Ext4 Drives. I have tried several USB drives with no apparent difference. I have never been able to copy a large amount of content back to the USB drive but smaller amounts (less than 2GB) always seem to succeed. If I copy a smaller amount of content (say 30GB) then I get a failure as well but consistently at a larger percentage complete (around 10%). The failure always seems to occur at the same point in the backup (as an example - copying 129 GB of content always fails at 2%). ![]() I have noticed that the background task performing the copy often fails. I am a fairly beginner user of QNAP products. I manually copy the content from the shares to the drive via File Station (old fashioned copy and paste) since my backup needs vary at this stage.
